Nike’s popular Zoom Fly 3 has been in the market for a while now, and now a first look at the Zoom Fly 4 has surfaced, via the Twitter account Rolows_13. Check the first images below:
What is this shoe for?
The Zoom Fly 3 was Nike’s more affordable version of the Next%. While both the Zoom Fly and Nike’s higher end VaporFly and AlphaFly feature a carbon fiber plate, the Zoom Fly features the more dense React foam, instead of the lighter and bouncier ZoomX foam. If you don’t feel like shelling out $200+, this shoe is a fantastic option in the carbon fiber plate category. The shoe is built for speed, but also is durable enough to handle workouts outside of road races.
Zoom Fly 3 vs. Zoom Fly 4
The new version of the Zoom Fly retains the carbon fiber plate and the React foam midsole, which are key elements of the previous version. The new version features a breathable mesh upper, which looks like an upgrade from the previous shoe, which had a more solid upper. There is also a new Flyknit cuff, which should be a lightweight way to provide a little heel (or ankle) lock. The Zoom Fly 4 also features a personal favorite of mine, a heel tab to help get the shoe on. The previous model did not feature a heel tab, which can make it harder to get the shoe on.
Zoom Fly 4 Release Date
The previous Zoom Fly 3 came out in fall of 2019 (otherwise known as “The Before Times”), so I’d expect to see the Zoom Fly 4 late summer or early fall, just in time (hopefully) for in person road race season. I’ll post updates as I see them

Any updates on a release date for the Fly 4s?
Is it end summer already? The Vapor Fly 3 is sold out, the next% (bought 2 pairs for training) are ok but gave me Achilles injuries. So I am in desperate need of new shoes after putting over 900km in all the previous pairs.
Really love the Zoom Fly 3. After working the midsole is softened ace. To the point I’d say a non-air bag Pegasus would make a great daily companion to it. (STOP THE AIR BAGS!). Looks like they’re about to put one of those awful knit uppers on the 4. Air Zoom pods and fly knit seem to be the worst parts of Nikes. Issues I have with many Nike shoes not present in the ZF#3: sloppy upper and lockdown from knit uppers (infinity and invincible), high poking arches, insoles moving around (infinity/invincible), forefoot instability (Pegasus, vomero) due to their obsession with air zoom pods.
Putting a stiff midsole and a sloppy knit upper just seems to exacerbate the foot sliding.
The only tweaks I think the fly 3 needed was perhaps a mild rocker, some zoom x in the forefoot—maybe— and Pegasus-wide rear, 5 mm more actual stack (not the fake stack the nikes and adidas are wrapping round the shoe! Nobody is getting this as a lightweight too race day shoe. So who cares of 30 g more per shoe.
ZF3 hit the perfect shoe for me along with Saucony Speed 2 and ASICS Glideride they covered everything.
My fave pair of Nikes EVER is my ZOOMFLY 2s. They are OLD and wore out almost, but man I love this shoe. Im curious if I will love the ZOOMFLY 4
